Session 6 10

Scrap and rock bits fill the jump point tunnel. "Dangerous navigation hazard" is understating things.
ExecutiveOfficer: "Sir! We can't keep the jump point open too long or we'll overstrain the engines."
Abraham: "Zinda? Spyboy? Kindly remove that crap from my sky."
Spyboy Pearson: "Understood. Launching now."
Zinda Tegram: "Copy that."
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Launch tunnels are on the front of the ship, yes?
Abraham sighs. "Litterbugs."
[OOC] Abraham: I really hope so.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: I was about to have Spyboy launch a torp when I remembered his fighter doesn't have any.
[OOC] Abraham: So what is the fine for littering the spaceways?)
[OOC] WC GM: They are.
[OOC] Metis: back
Zinda Tegram rolled up 4dF: - + - + (Base: 7 Total: 7) (Gunnery, tagging Sterne Lanze's "Heavy Dust Cannons")
[OOC] WC GM: As to the fine - you know that you are the law, yes?
Heggy takes the F-105 out the front of the Roland, laying down a volley of fire towards the center of the debris.
Zinda Tegram tilts her ship, disengages the engines to free up more power, lets loose a steady stream of fire.
[OOC] Abraham: I am /a/ law. There are three others who presumably would have done this before I got on the scene.
Quite a bit of the debris is blasted to the sides of the tunnel. Immediately upon contact, it is yanked in and compressed beyond optical limits, just barely slow enough to not look like it simply vanished.
Spyboy Pearson focuses on finding something - an intact fuel tank, perhaps, or a torpedo launcher - that will explode, pushing the debris into the tunnel walls.
Spyboy Pearson rolled up 4dF: 0 + 0 - (Base: 5 Total: 5) (Science to place "Perfect Target" on the scene.)
Zinda Tegram mentally orders another decoy to fly through to test the tunnel.
This decoy gets about a third of the way in before encountering debris, and about halfway before it is finally knocked into the side.
None of the debris proves to be explosive.
Zinda Tegram: "…fuck it."
Zinda Tegram mentally orders a temblor assembled in her cargo bay.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: That's right. Zinda's response to a mildly intractible problem? BLOW UP A PLANET.
[OOC] Abraham: I'm telling you. She think's she's Vegita.
Spyboy Pearson: "No good. But we might be able to let Zinda help us. About how much clearance will the Roland have in the tunnel? It's got that extra layer of armor now…"
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Hahahaha
While on the one hand the Temblor works far less well on a loose collection of parts than on a planet where all the pieces are together - on the other, the blast is still more than sufficient for this.
ExecutiveOfficer: "Almost none."
Zinda Tegram tows the Temblor into position without alerting the Roland, sets a timer, and nudges it into the tunnel.
Zinda Tegram: "Roland, you might want to stand back a bit."
Abraham: "Meters. No more."
Spyboy Pearson: "So in other words it wouldn't take much of a hit to destroy the Roland entirely-"
[OOC] WC GM: Assuming the Temblor was mostly pre-prepped? Since building one from scratch takes a while.
Spyboy Pearson: "…..oh, crap. Zinda, what did you-"
Zinda Tegram proceeds to stand back as advised.
Abraham: "XO? How far away can we move and maintain the tunnel?"
ExecutiveOfficer: "We're about as far away as we can be, sir."
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Heck, let the tunnel close, then reopen.
Abraham: "Ah."
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: No explosion through the gate if the gate's closed….
[OOC] Abraham: So what happens if the tunnel closes on you?
[OOC] Metis: You are promoted to bishop and sent back into the fray.
[OOC] WC GM: Assuming you're not at one of the ends, the same thing as happened to the debris: you're trapped until it gets reopened.
[OOC] WC GM: There haven't been many studies on whether it's possible to open from the inside.
[OOC] Abraham: We could call up Wayne. He'd probably know.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: He's a system away, mostly impossible to call.
Heggy moves the F-105E around the gate.
Abraham: "XO. Close the Tunnel. We'll reopen it again in fifteen minutes. Did you copy that Spyboy? Zinda?"
Spyboy Pearson: "Copy that, sir."
Zinda Tegram: "Copy that Roland."
ExecutiveOfficer: "Yes, sir! Closing tunnel." The jump point shrinks and vanishes…
Zinda Tegram leans back and waits.
…only to reopen just after the timer expires.
Zinda Tegram sends a third decoy in.
ExecutiveOfficer: "…that's not us. Reading no active jump engines on the other side."
The tunnel is clear - and much wider than before.
Zinda Tegram: "Let's roll."
Spyboy Pearson: "I….don't know what that could mean."
Zinda Tegram turns on her engines, and starts a corkscrew as she enters the tunnel, intending to evade any potential fire.
Heggy follows Zinda in.
[OOC] WC GM: Science checks if anyone wants.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Zinda's not in that headspace right now.
Abraham: "How very interesting. Still, if it's not us, then we don't need to remain here to keep the tunnel open. Move back 5 clicks."
Metis rolled up 4dF: - + + - (Base: 4 Total: 4) ((Science for the wtf?))
ExecutiveOfficer: "Yes, sir!"
Spyboy Pearson rolled up 4dF: - 0 + 0 (Base: 5 Total: 5) (Science to figure out if Temblor bombs can open a jump point)
Abraham rolled up 4dF: - + + 0 (Base: 6 Total: 7) (For Einstein's sake…)
Metis: "Similar sensor readings to the Mu Cephi wormwhole of Nephilim construct. Without anything to sustain it, collapse is inevitable."
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Did Zinda just sequence break?
Spyboy Pearson: "…..Where are we going…?"
[OOC] Metis: Zinda, stop opening portals to the warp.
Zinda Tegram: "$Oldziey.$"
Spyboy Pearson: "$We don't even know that!$"
Abraham: "I see… that's clever. That's very clever…"
Zinda Tegram: "That was the Oldziey jump point right?"
Zinda encounters no incoming fire, but does see familiar Oldziey defenses on the far side, mine field and all. Though the nearest mines seem to have intersected the wider-than-usual portal, which triggered other mines, and the defenders are scrambling to avoid their own trap, just as Zinda emerges.
Zinda Tegram drops a sensor beacon amid the chaos.
[OOC] WC GM: Combat time! Initiative: Zinda, Spyboy, Abraham/Metis, then enemies starting on second round. Surprise round go!
Zinda Tegram: "$I'm home, my liege. Time to face the music.$"
[OOC] Abraham: "$No!!! Not 'Row Row Row your boat! I hate that inane thing!$"
Spyboy Pearson: "No, it wasn't the Oldziey jump point….that was a wormhole created where the jump point was. Could have taken us to Oldziey - or could have taken us to Kilrah, for all we knew."
[OOC] Abraham: BRB
Zinda Tegram continues her evasive action and uses her 360 degree cockpit to try and identify the squadron she's engaged with.
Zinda Tegram rolled up 4dF: + 0 - + (Base: 7 Total: 8) (Alertness, 360 view cockpit)
[OOC] WC GM: Results PMed
Spyboy Pearson performs a careful scan of the mines - looking for either remote override codes that would let him take control entirely, or simply a sensor profile he can duplicate to trigger them.
Zinda Tegram: "Roland, those seem to be oldziey designed augmented with nephilim technology."
[OOC] Abraham: Back
Spyboy Pearson rolled up 4dF: 0 + + + (Base: 6 Total: 9) (Communications to place the Aspect 'Mine Control.')
From the mines triggering each other, and interception of hasty unscrambled communications to try to limit the damage to the minefield, Spyboy can trigger them whenever he wants.
Zinda Tegram: "Careful…the colors suggest they're royal guard."
Metis accesses the Roland's sensor banks to form a predictive model for the conflict, taking into account the Nephilim modifications while updating the database for the 'new' Oldziey royal guard schematics.
Metis rolled up 4dF: + - + - (Base: 6 Total: 6) ((Alertness via carrier sensors to place "Predictive battle model" on scene. Now offering free tag to highest bidder.))
Abraham: "XO? Let's see if we can't add our own share of confusion. Begin harassment fire."
WC GM rolled up 4dF: - 0 + - (Base: 4 Total: 3) (Tactics)
Abraham rolled up 4dF: 0 + + + (Base: 6 Total: 9) (Science for Tactics to lay 'Harassed' on the Oldziey forces.)
[OOC] Metis: Someone wants the Oldziey forces harassed….
Zinda Tegram: "$Geoffrey, it's Roseblood.$"
Zinda Tegram: "$Be careful.$"
Metis does indeed have a good prediction of how this is going to go. It is looking like a rout - too easy. Suspiciously too easy.
Geoffrey: "$Aren't we always? Aside from that one time.$"
WC GM rolled up 4dF: - 0 0 + (Base: 3 Total: 3) (Resolve)
[OOC] Abraham: "$Roseblood? Isn't that the king's sled?$"
Spyboy Pearson: "Not sure why I would be more afraid of a bunch of bandits because they work for a bigger bandit."
The Oldziey fighters are practically putty in the party's hands.
Spyboy Pearson: "That said, the nephilim aspect…that's troubling."
Zinda Tegram: "$They're…my old squadron.$"
Spyboy Pearson: "Did you train them?"
Zinda Tegram: "No. They taught me however."
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: If so, then you can tap my 'That's why I'm not the pi-' awww.
Two of the enemy fighters crash into one another.
Zinda Tegram: "$…What the…$"
[OOC] Abraham: Though you can lay the aspect 'Ive Changed' on yourself.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Hahaha, not quite my plan.
[OOC] WC GM: End surprise round, start round 2. Zinda!
Zinda Tegram makes an extremely aggressive pass at the most coherently flying target. If they're the Roseblood she remembers, then they'll definitely avoid it, and then…
…and then it is like they do not even see her until she is within 100 meters, too late to dodge.
Zinda Tegram zooms past.
Zinda Tegram: "$…What happened to you, Roseblood?$"
Metis: "Is it possible that they have not adapted to the Nephilim 'upgrades', or that perhaps the Nephilim technology was never intended as an upgrade?"
Zinda Tegram: "$They're not themselves…Decoys…?$"
Zinda Tegram: "Metis, please scan for any observation equipment."
[OOC] WC GM: Technically she's after Spyboy in init, but if you want to swap, sure.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Sorry, didn't connect that Zinda had acted.
[OOC] Abraham: Well, given the current state of affairs, it's not like there's any hurry…
Spyboy Pearson starts the Nephilim handshake protocol, pinging the equipment on the modified fighters for a receiver.
Spyboy Pearson rolled up 4dF: - + + 0 (Base: 6 Total: 7) (Communications to begin data attack)
Metis: "Scan in progress." ((As I read it, Zinda's delaying her action, so Spyboy is up, then Metis' scan.))
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: OK.
[OOC] Metis: Presuming alertness, unless something else comes to mind?
Spyboy Pearson: "Holy - these fighters are under a data attack!"
Spyboy Pearson: "They're trying to trigger a self-destruct."
[OOC] WC GM: Alertness or Engineering for Metis, yes.
Spyboy Pearson: "That's basically all they have left…and I don't know who could be attacking."
Metis rolled up 4dF: - 0 - - (Base: 6 Total: 3) ((Engineering; scanning for other pertinent information, such as observation equipment, remote transmitters, or anything else of note.))
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: …are there humans on board…?
Zinda saw a human in that one fighter she passed, struggling with the controls.
Metis: "Transmitting location of relays and sensors. Warning: There is a significant quantity. This matches known MO of Admiral Kali."
Zinda Tegram: "$Figures…Kali, if you get in the way of my kill….$"
Zinda's and Spyboy's screens briefly flare from the number of data points, before automatically dimming.
Much denser and they would qualify as a thin atmosphere.
Zinda Tegram: "Metis, please transmit the designs."
Spyboy Pearson: "So….she's here….but how?"
Metis: "Transmission in progress." ((Which will be finished when WC says so.))
[OOC] Abraham: "Because she's Wenser. I mean, obviously…"
The designs are simple and mostly already known. Transmission takes less than a second.
The number seems to be quite larger than normal, likely due to the presence of self-replication systems on these units.
Abraham: "XO, continue harassing fire please. It's probably not really necessary, but every little bit helps."
Abraham rolled up 4dF: 0 0 - 0 (Base: 6 Total: 5) (Science for Tactics to lay 'Still Harassed' on the Oldziey forces.)
ExecutiveOfficer: "Yes, sir. But if I may say, sir, I almost feel sorry for them. Almost."
Abraham: "Sympathy for them is all well and good, but our priority has to be our own people."
WC GM rolled up 4dF: + + 0 0 (Base: 0 Total: 2) (Engineering minus compels)
Metis: "Why not redirect the flak towards destruction of the observation fog?"
The enemy fighters finally manage to at least eject, the pilots drifting toward the jump point station.
[OOC] WC GM: Combat over.
Zinda Tegram: "Geoffrey, round them up."
Spyboy Pearson starts a scan, looking for Kali's carrier.
Geoffrey: "Roger. $Aww, we didn't even get to fire a shot.$"
There is no sign of another carrier nearby.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Yeah, that's just what she wants me to think.
Spyboy Pearson watches the enemy fighters.
Zinda Tegram: "Once they're on board in the brig, we can move on Asago."
There is, however, a clear trail of Kali-probes, leading off toward Asago.
Spyboy Pearson: "Looks like Kali already has - it's where her probes came from."
ExecutiveOfficer: "Sir, permission to enter Oldziey?"
Zinda Tegram: "Granted."
ExecutiveOfficer: "I was asking the Admiral."
Abraham: "Please do."
Spyboy Pearson checks radiation levels. Oldziey is supposed to be a 'hot' system, after all….
The Roland meets the ejected pilots just on the far side of the temporary wormhole.
Metis: "Admiral, it may be wise to do a sweep of the Roland to be certain there is no infection from Kali's fog."
Spyboy Pearson: "Can you handle that, Metis, or do you need me to back you up?"
Abraham: "Absolutely. I would be frankly surprised if there wasn't a backdoor installed for 'trusted sources'."
There are enough asteroids blocking direct line of sight to the sun to lower radiation to tolerable levels here. Indeed, Oldziey is noted for that effect: only in and directly behind the asteroids is the system considered habitable, and jump points could only have formed at the belts' two intersections.
Metis: "Your experience with Kali would make you a superior choice for analyzing the ship's data structures. I will perform a physical sweep of the Roland."
Abraham: "Electronics are not my strongest suit, but I should at least be able to do that."
[OOC] Abraham: I doubt you'll let me get away with Science yet again, so… Engineering?
[OOC] WC GM: Engineering would be better, yes.
Abraham rolled up 4dF: + 0 - 0 (Base: 3 Total: 3) (Engineering which, let's be honest here, is another name for practical science.)
Zinda Tegram follows the fog to Asago.
[OOC] WC GM: Do Spyboy and the Roland follow?
Spyboy Pearson and Heggy form up with Zinda.
[OOC] Abraham: No. Roland will perform the sweep first.
[OOC] WC GM: Results of Abraham's part have been PMed.
Abraham: "Okay, engage quarantine protocols. Shields set to 15% and all incoming ships will be decontaminated before being allowed in the hangar."
ExecutiveOfficer: "Yes, sir. Starting with those prisoners, sir."
[OOC] Metis: Physical sweep would be Engineering as well?
Abraham: "Follow them in when you are ready."
Spyboy Pearson: "For the record, hull penetration will be difficult due to the layer of Zinda on the hull."
[OOC] WC GM: Alertness, more likely.
Metis rolled up 4dF: - 0 + + (Base: 6 Total: 7) ((Alertness to perform physical sweep of Roland for… Kali residue.))
Metis: "Initial scan results: the Roland is free of Kali's probes."
Abraham: "Excellent. Thank you, Metis."
Metis: "Admiral, a modification to the Roland's atmospheric filtration system to recognize Kali's known designs would allow for containment of a local outbreak. This would not affect new or unknown designs, but it would inoculate against known vectors. Should I begin prototyping the update?"
Abraham: "An excellent idea, Metis. Make it so."
[OOC] Metis: Presumably, the Roland is now heading off towards Asago?
[OOC] Abraham: I did tell the XO to 'when he was ready'.
The Roland is underway to Asago not that long behind Spyboy and Zinda.
[OOC] WC GM: PMing Lapis to confirm scene details.
It is not long before Zinda has a good visual on Asago. The cities built like weather shelters, ready to fend off hurricane after hailstorm after earthquake, after the geo-control systems were abandoned then destroyed in the ensuing climactic chaos.
The solidly-constructed transit tubes, broken then repaired but linking the cities that did not have their own spaceports, getting supplies to those who could or would not move off-planet.
The calm seas and clear skies and not a seismic tremor anywhere.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Sorry for the delay
[OOC] Abraham: You were worried that Metis was going to get herself infected with Kali cooties. It's understandable.
Zinda Tegram: "What the…"
[OOC] Metis: Yeah, Kali cooties are the worst.
Zinda Tegram: "$What the hell happened here!?$"
[OOC] Abraham: And on every single corner, every single one, is a CrestBucks coffee shop.
Asago: "$Mayday. Mayday. This is Asago Captial Coordination Center calling for anyone in orbit, please respond.$"
Zinda Tegram: "$This is Zinda Tegram. What's the matter?$"
ACCC: "$…Dame Tegram? Returned, after all this time? ARE YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?!?$"
[OOC] Abraham: <Asago> "$Mayday. Mayday. This is Asago Capital Coordination Center calling for anyone /else/ in orbit, please respond.$"
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Sounds about right. =D
Metis: "Is Zinda responsible for this? It does not seem likely."
Spyboy Pearson: "Almost certainly not, at least not directly."
Spyboy Pearson: "Asago Capital Coordination Center, what is your status?"
Abraham takes his promise not to wait seriously.
ACCC: "Wind power generators are failing. Seismic taps are offline. We're on emergency reserves here."
ACCC: "Can you see the geo-control center? It was at the north pole, but last we saw it was destroyed by series of earthquakes, then flooded, and finally quartered by four near-simultaneous hurricanes."
Zinda Tegram: "Copy that. I'm en-route."
ACCC: "That was decades ago, though."
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Only on Oldziey would the END of planetary catastrophe be a catastrophe in and of itself.
[OOC] WC GM: But of course!
Spyboy Pearson: "Chances of someone fixing it are high, then. Experience tells me Dame Tegram is almost certainly NOT at fault for this."
The north pole is a barren muddy plain, dotted by occasional hills.
Zinda Tegram does a series of low fly-overs, scanning for anything resembling a control center.
[OOC] Metis: Decades ago? How many? How old is Zinda?
[OOC] WC GM: Asago was storm-covered well before Zinda was born.
[OOC] Abraham: A technicality. It's still her fault.
[OOC] Metis: Well, that logic is unimpeachable.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Clearly it was Wenser. But then, Zinda IS Wenser, so.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Yeah. The planet's artificial, and fell into disrepair following the initial exodus.
Deep beneath the surface lies the broken skeleton of the original control center, with feeds leading to the various machines within the planet.
Very close examination reveals active power, and pulses that could only be data and controls - but no heat signatures suggesting someone is down there, though it is hard to tell through all this mud.
Spyboy Pearson: "….Sounds about right."
Spyboy Pearson: "Kali is almost certainly running this facility on remote-control. She probably took over Wenser's facility, too."
Spyboy Pearson surveys the area for any sign of a data trail.
Zinda Tegram mulls things over.
Zinda Tegram: "So, what are we going to do then?"
Zinda Tegram: "Kali seems to have the system E-warred to hell and back. Do we just clean up…?"
Sure enough, Spyboy finds a blanket of Kali's probes on the surface - everywhere but the cities, which are walled enough to filter their atmosphere and seem to be unknowingly filtering Kali's probes too.
Spyboy Pearson: "Admiral?"
Metis: "Is there any record of this being an official operation? Or an unofficial operation? Has Kali performed a breach of territorial sovereignty?"
Abraham: "None that I am aware of, but I have not been brought up to speed on all the current operations my rank would normally make me privy to. That was to wait until after this cruise."
ACCC: "…err. Reading Confed transponders on orbiting craft. Please confirm?"
Abraham: "Spyboy, is it possible to send out a self-destruct command to the probes? That won't fix the damage, but it will stop any new damage."
Spyboy Pearson: "….I'm not sure. Kali's almost as good at electronic warfare as I am."
Zinda Tegram: "Heh. You're looking at the Roland, capital center."
Abraham: "This is The Roland of the Confed Navy, Asago."
Spyboy Pearson composes a virus and loads it into the probenet.
ACCC: "…confirmed, we are getting our brown pants out now."
Spyboy Pearson rolled up 4dF: 0 + 0 - (Base: 6 Total: 6) (Communications - data attack on probes.)
Spyboy Pearson: "….Hmm. So it's going to be like that, is it?"
ACCC: "If you're here to offer humanitarian aid, we'll take it. No combat forces are on Asago at this time that we know of."
ACCC: "King Roseblood's off on a raid right now."
Zinda Tegram: "I see, that's a damn shame."
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Is King Roseblood in our hangar deck right now, rescued from his fighter?
[OOC] WC GM: None of the captives have identified as such, nor do any look that royal.
Zinda Tegram: "Well, I don't have anywhere else to be, so until he gets back I think you should consider us valued guests."
[OOC] Abraham: Of course! King Roseblood is Wenser. Wenser is Kali. How could I have not seen it? It's sooooo obvious!
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: …..dang, it is obvious now that you say it.
Zinda Tegram: "We'll fix your energy problem, and you keep mum about us. Fair enough?"
[OOC] Metis: But wouldn't that make Zinda King Roseblood?
[OOC] Abraham: Now you're catching on.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: …Fools. King Roseblood is actually Nephilim, and he controls the Wensers. That's why he's king.
Spyboy Pearson: "What if I…."
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Zinda is a rogue Wenser, and Kali is tasked with catching her.
[OOC] Metis: Can I be a king?
[OOC] Abraham: That's just the sort of thing we'd expect you to say, King Zinda Roseblood.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: …Heh. The Roseblood name shall make a fine addendum to the Noble house of Tegram.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: For I am Zinda Tegram-Roseblood. Or something.
Spyboy Pearson rolled up 4dF: + 0 + + (Base: 7 Total: 10) (Science+'Massive Dish' to place 'Circuits mapped out' on the probes.)
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Whoa. Zinda's marrying Roseblood's daughter?
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: That's unexpected.
[OOC] Metis: Aren't there laws about that? …and some fairy tales?
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Hahaha. Alfred Roseblood was her suitor~
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Except that makes no sense. But still~<3
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: ………..or maybe not so unexpected after all?
Spyboy Pearson: "Huh. These….may not all be Kali's."
Zinda Tegram: "What makes you say that?"
Metis: "Please upload alternative designs for access to the Roland's filtration unit."
Spyboy Pearson: "Oddities in the design. More than just drift from the self-replication. It's like they had more than one designer - though Kali could have had someone else do some of her drones, or she could have- got it, Metis."
Spyboy Pearson sends the schematics to Metis.
Metis: "Transmission received. Thank you."
Metis: "I have detected a similarity between probe-to-probe differences that correlates with core-to-core differences created by Elles."
Finally the Roland comes in view, though the bridge has been displaying visual feeds from Zinda's and Spyboy's fighters. Aside from how built up the cities and transit are, it almost reminds Abraham of Nielnieh.
Abraham: "Yeah. I was afraid that's where this conversation was going. Spyboy, have you worked out a self-destruct or a standby or power down command?"
Spyboy Pearson: "Not really."
Spyboy Pearson: "They don't appear to have anything that would be capable of that - they're pretty much an indirect relay."
Spyboy Pearson starts hunting for data routes…
Spyboy Pearson: "Unless I'm wrong. Admiral, I can't even detect a source. It's like she managed to make a probe network that was capable of repairing the Asago Climate Control Center."
Spyboy Pearson: "If we want to wreck the Asago climate, our options are pretty much limited to orbital bombardment."
Spyboy Pearson: "We….may have to send Zindas down to provide power."
[OOC] WC GM: How many Zindas?
[OOC] Metis: Enough.
[OOC] Abraham: Did I miss something? Did I miss the 'we want to create climate change on Asago' part of the mission?
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Apparently you did.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Asago is an artificial planet; when it was created, it needed a lot of stabilization; that stabilization was lost when the Confederation pulled out of Oldziey almost a century ago.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: That lack of stabilization led to massive earthquakes and superhurricanes.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: However, Asago cities are now built to stand that, and in fact rely on it for power.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Now Kali (probably) has fixed the climate controls, and the cities have no power sources.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Don't know if we actually want to fix the climate or not, but the cities are out of power.
[OOC] Abraham: Okay, I get it now.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: As far as the number of Zindas to send down, I'm not sure about the actual ratio of tree-fortess-energy-production to city consumption, so no idea.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Other than 'enough.'
[OOC] Metis: The real question is, if we don't save this planet, how will Zinda annex it?
Abraham does some napkin math on how much power the planet would need without their earthquake energy sources, and for how long before they had a reasonable amount of time to set up an alternative infastructure.
Abraham rolled up 4dF: 0 0 + + (Base: 6 Total: 8) (Science for math.)
Ordinarily, refurbishing Asago would take months, and then only because its artificial nature means there was some planning in planet formation, leading to accessible locations for power sources and even farming if necessary. With the capabilities the Roland has, a day or two is more reasonable - which also gives time for intelligence gathering.
Spyboy Pearson pulses the planet with an Integrated 'hello' ping.
No response.
Spyboy Pearson pulses the planet with the Nephilim handshake protocol.
No response.
Spyboy Pearson: "I'm getting nothing on the neucomm, Admiral. No Integrated, no Nephilim. At least none that aren't actively resisting contact."
Spyboy Pearson: "Which unfortunately means no reliable source of inside intel."
Spyboy Pearson: "Though we could get Zinda to seed the planet with spy biodrones…"
Abraham: "What are the kali drones doing right now? Are they sending information back to, presumably, Kali?"
Spyboy Pearson: "I'm not sure. There is a lot of information flow, but it's mostly in circles."
Spyboy Pearson uploads the communication map he constructed.
Abraham: "So we're not even sure if the drones are locked in an infinite loop even. Huh."
Metis pauses from the atmospheric filter rebuilding to examine the communication map.
The local probes do indeed appear to be operating autonomously, with not nearly enough offplanet traffic as there would be if someone elsewhere was coordinating their cleanup.
Abraham: "Spyboy… could they be their own entity now?"
Metis: "Michael, is there any indication whether the probes are a centralized or decentralized network?"
Spyboy Pearson: "Heck, for all we know the debris that was lodged in the jump point was Kali's carrier, and she launched the probes as a posthumous effort."
Spyboy Pearson: "….They seem decentralized….I don't notice 'fixing the climate controls' as a distinct order…"
