Session 5 9

The interrogation continues. This is already a Confederation-wide record for longest sustained conversation with a Nephilim, by far.
Zinda Tegram: "So, uh, Admiral I asked about it an uh…Ophanim are like their worker robots?"
Zinda Tegram: "They could be exosuited biologicals I just have a picture here."
Abraham examines the picture, trying to glean…well…really anything from it.
"Exosuited biologicals" seems appropriate. Possibly not even exosuited - it's hard to tell.
[OOC] WC GM: Need a check to get more than that. Engineering, or suggest a skill.
[OOC] Abraham: Science?
[OOC] WC GM: Sure.
Abraham rolled up 4dF: 0 0 0 0 (Base: 5 Total: 5) (Science because I conned WC into letting me.)
[OOC] Abraham: Okay…Chessa needs her coffee.
[OOC] Aerdan: You don't want her to do coffee. She's enough of a dicebitch as it is.
Abraham: "Hm.. Okay. The Nephilim obviously have a different design aesthetic than you do Zinda. Not exactly a huge revelation, but still. So, do you think they're up to evacuating Mu Cephei?"
Spyboy Pearson: "It seems unlikely that they have the capability to do so. All the non-Nephilim have self-destructed, and that leaves fighter pilots."
Abraham: "They also look… obsolete? Not as advanced or modern as the Neph soldier/fighters."
Zinda Tegram: "Well, uh, I thought we were going to leave the nephilim to do that."
Abraham: "Also it looks like the Kilrathi had a bigger cultural influence on them than we thought. The way this…head…piece on the right…is curved looks very similar to the Mantle of Novalsi, which is what the Ripping Claw medal's design is based on."
Zinda Tegram: "Erm, Elles I mean."
Abraham: "Sorry, let myself be distracted by…anyway… Ask them how many of them there are in this sector, if you can come up with a charade for that."
The Nephilim fighters slowly begin to break formation, starting to turn once more toward the jump point, though they do not resume moving yet.
[OOC] Abraham: We bore them.
[OOC] Abraham: Unrelated, Zinda how is your connection feeling today?
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Good I'm just thinking of how to say it
Zinda Tegram: "[Abraham wants to know how many of you there are. Wait, uh…]"
Ingenue: "Admiral, they are disengaging from the neutrino communicator."
Abraham thinks rapidly. Did anyone mention politics or taxes? He doesn't think so…
Zinda Tegram draws three circles on Nephilim's canopy, in the condensation.
Zinda Tegram in turn counts the fighters, and puts that many dots in one, puts that many dots plus another group in the second, and just floods the third with dots.
Abraham: "Are the Neph doing anything?"
Zinda Tegram: "[Hey, hey hey! Don't turn around you pieces of…Argh!]"
Zinda Tegram: "Admiral do you have a damn linguist on board there?"
[OOC] Abraham: Zinda 'The Great Negotiator' Tegram
The Nephilim pilot looks at Zinda for a moment, then draws a line through the third, bisecting it. It points to one half, then itself, then the other half, then, "[Wenser.]"
[OOC] Ingenue: Zinda, please don't taunt the advanced alien species we're at war with.
Abraham: "Well, I currently have /someone/ acting as a linguist, but she's on lockdown."
Zinda Tegram: "[OK, uh…They say they do but that the others are Wenser and…Well, I think they have a civil war going on.]"
Abraham looks over Isabel's shoulder. Has she gotten anything useful yet?
Zinda Tegram: "[And you don't like Wenser?]"
Zinda Tegram flicks the wenser-cloud.
Abraham: "Looks like Wenser and me are going to have to have a serious and heart-felt powwow sooner rather than later."
The Nephilim pilot punches at the Wenser-cloud, stopping just short of actually hitting the canopy. "[WENSER.]"
[OOC] Abraham: I immediately turn to Isabel, who is Wenser.
Zinda Tegram finally thinks to pull a marker out of her pocket and points at the planet.
Zinda Tegram: "[Mu-Cephei.]"
Zinda Tegram draws a circle.
Zinda Tegram draws a single solid circle at the center of the of the planet-circle.
Zinda Tegram: "[LaGOS.]"
Zinda Tegram mimics their punch.
Zinda Tegram then draws a wedge on the planet and puts many small dots in it.
Zinda Tegram: "[Lago.]"
Zinda Tegram tries to indicate them moving off planet, then punching again.
Zinda Tegram then points to herself, mime-punches Wenser, and points to the Nephilim, and mime-punches it.
Zinda Tegram: "[Get it?]"
Even across species barriers, Zinda recognizes the contemplation the Nephilim gives this. Then it points to Zinda, and mime-punches the lago wedge.
Zinda Tegram: "[No.]"
[OOC] Abraham: I suppose that we should be grateful that the Neph don't communicate more via sent/pheromones.
Zinda Tegram points to the jump point, then to the lago-wedge.
Isabel: "Okay. Okay, I've got something."
Isabel: "It's a religious war."
Zinda Tegram then erases the lagos in the lago wedge and draws a straight beam down the wedge to the core.
Abraham turns to Isabel.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Eh, Zinda could handle that, maybe even through a spacesuit and fighter canopy.
Abraham: "All right. What are the two factions?"
Abraham: "Or rather, what is the schism?"
Isabel: "To meddle or to preserve. The ones we're dealing with now want to preserve. They call the other faction 'Wenser'."
Isabel: "I…think? Maybe the other way around."
Abraham: "… I am less surprised by that than I should be. So 'to meddle or to preserve' what?"
Isabel: "Us. And themselves."
[OOC] Abraham: Of course Wenser is both. We already knew that.
Isabel: "They're counting on us to save them."
Isabel: "The other faction didn't want that."
Isabel: "The other faction is the one we've fought before. They came to destroy salvation before the others could find it."
Isabel: "We did not completely defeat them. Some of them came here, in…anticipation? This is…no, Chandley was, the third wormhole in this 'cycle'."
Abraham: "It is fortunate I am so open minded and such an all around nice guy, otherwise this is the sort of thing that would engender an intense distaste for religion in general."
[OOC] Abraham: And yes, my head is just swell.
Isabel pulls up a map of Terran and Kilrathi space, then points to Kilrah and draws a rough line. "One…two…three." She ends in Chandley.
Isabel: "The other faction intercepted the first two but they could not intercept all three."
Isabel: "So they intercepted it the other way…" She traces the jump points from the second Nephilim wormhole to Chandley.
Isabel: "But they almost did not make it. They thought for sure we would make contact first."
Isabel: "They learned our language to blaspheme."
[OOC] Abraham: So did I.
Abraham: "So they do understand our language then?"
Isabel: "The 'Wenser' faction does."
Isabel: "This one does not."
Abraham relays Isabel's finding to the others (once she gives some kind of indications that she's finished talking).
Isabel: "That's most of what I've found so far."
[OOC] Ingenue: Nue's braincasting pretty much 24/7 to the others already.
[OOC] Abraham: But is Isabel in range of my mic?
[OOC] Abraham: Eh regardless.
[OOC] Abraham: Abraham lets the other mull over Isabel's findings as he BRBs
[OOC] Abraham: Back
Spyboy Pearson: "Seems pretty straightforward to me."
Abraham: "So any idea what the 'salvation' they're expecting from us is?"
Isabel: "Something that has menaced them for…"
Isabel: "…thousands of years? They seem to mention 'investing' in the same breath as creating that design…" She indicates Abraham's Ripping Claw. "…in commemoration."
Abraham: "The Kilrathi?"
Isabel shrugs.
Zinda Tegram takes the chance to start climbing around the nephilim fighter while it's stopped and she doesn't have to hang on with her boarding torch.
Isabel: "You know the Kilrathi better than I do. How old is that?"
Abraham indicates his Ripping Claw. "This? Um… apparently older than I thought."
[OOC] Ingenue: Culture/Tech Kilrathi check?
[OOC] WC GM: Go for it. What are you looking for?
[OOC] Ingenue: How old the ripping claw design is.
[OOC] Abraham: When the Ripping Claw was first introduced, or at least in it's modern form.
Abraham rolled up 4dF: - 0 - 0 (Base: 2 Total: 0) (Culture/Tech)
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: …Oh my god Chessa
[OOC] WC GM: No check needed. Abraham would already know this.
[OOC] Abraham: She's had her coffee.
Abraham: "Ah, I remember now. The design dates back to the Kilrathi's First Contact with an alien species, which was the Nephilim."
Abraham: "I did a little research on it after the Kilrathi out of the blue awarded me with it."
Zinda Tegram starts looking around for the nephilim cloaking equipment. After rustling around in her boarding pack, she pulls out a scanner. Usually these are used when engaging fighters EVA, but from this distance….
Zinda gets lots of data. Lots and lots of data - from this distance, her scanner is able to penetrate thin walls and get schematics. It will need to be analyzed before it does much good, though.
Zinda Tegram: "Bingo…"
Abraham: "So apparently the Nephillim want us to save them from the big bad Kilrathi."
Zinda Tegram: "[Honey, when I get back I have a treat for you. No sharing it though, OK?]"
Ingenue: "[OK!]"
[OOC] Ingenue: Man, I hope that was to Metis…
Isabel: "No…the Kilrathi are part of 'us'."
Abraham: "'Us' being the not-Wenser faction?"
Isabel: "Or rather, we're part of the Kilrathi, in their eyes."
Abraham: "Ah. Well that makes more sense, admittedly."
Isabel: "'Us' being the not-whatever-they-are."
Spyboy Pearson: "Yeah. Meddling with the Kilrathi was in order to spur Kilrathi development against some nebulous threat."
[OOC] Abraham: Well, that's just prime.
Isabel: "It isn't nebulous. It's a doom they are living with every day…I think."
Abraham: "I assume it's a more punchable doom than old age?"
Isabel: "They have suffered a torment since before that day. They suffer it now."
Isabel: "Whatever it is, apparently we can punch it but they can not. Or so they hope."
[OOC] Abraham: Yeah. I'm disappointed Planescape didn't get a sequel either.
Abraham: "Huh."
Abraham: "Wait… is it a Neph-made AI?"
[OOC] Ingenue: It wasn't me.
Isabel frowns, reviewing the recordings. "I…don't think so…"
Spyboy Pearson: "As far as we're concerned it's nebulous."
Abraham: "Well, that's something of a relief then. Still, it is a shame since this means I can't throw the Neph menace at Elles."
[OOC] Abraham: Got it. It's premature hair loss.
[OOC] Ingenue: Still can…
Isabel: "They mention…I think this bit is 'synthetic minds', but then there's 'failure' all over it."
[OOC] Abraham: But it won't be as poetic.
Isabel: "The most profound failure possible."
Abraham nods. "I see." he says not really seeing.
Abraham: "Well, until we figure out what this menace is suppose to be, I'm going to call it 'Ghosts', or 'Neph Ghosts'."
Abraham: "Because boogeyman isn't pithy enough."
Abraham: "But seriously, do you get a sense that it /is/ another species? Is /not/ another species? Any more clues at all?"
Isabel: "It's definitely not another species. I don't think it's an external threat at all."
Isabel: "We're to save them from something about themselves. Their own sin."
Abraham: "Ah. Well, that's information. That's… interesting."
Abraham: "And are we suppose to end the sin, or just absolve them of it?"
Isabel: "…their imagery gets very specific here. Have they recently seen a boarding torch used as an implement of terror?"
[OOC] Ingenue: No. It was an implement of love. Zinda is love. Obey the Zinda. Love the Zinda.
Abraham: "I um… maybe…. Let's say yes, then what?"
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Obey!
Isabel: "They seem to be saying, end it as surely as That Torch cuts."
Isabel: "I'd guess that translates to, 'with extreme prejudice and haste'."
[OOC] Ingenue: Ohhhh, purify their sin in fire! We can do that.
Abraham: "I see. That implies that the…sin…is still ongoing. Still being perpetuated."
Isabel: "Does that sound like what they've been exposed to?"
Isabel: "Yes, it's definitely still present."
Ingenue: "The problem is the ambiguity of 'sin'. It could be a physical act, a process that they are now ashamed of, it could be a moral or philosophical concept, or even a biological aberration."
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Did they turn Zinda's torch into religious imagery?
[OOC] WC GM: You know it.
[OOC] Ingenue: Who hasn't?
[OOC] Abraham: It's the Warp, isn't it? Their sin is creating The Warp and since The Warp is still around, the sin is still ongoing.
[OOC] Ingenue: That's the problem with sin. Its the gift that keeps on sinning.
[OOC] Abraham: Gotta go punch the warp. Be back in a bit.
[OOC] Abraham: Back
Isabel: "They're waiting for the Abrahim - I assume that's you - to speak to them."
Abraham: "Well, I hope that me. If not, I plan on faking it as long as I can."
Isabel: "You haven't told me everything, but you haven't spoken to them that I can see."
Abraham: "I haven't. And also, I haven't. I'm hoping that I can appoint someone to speak to them for me. Metatron style."
[OOC] Abraham: Of course, this is just WC trying to force me to get a neutrino implant.
[OOC] Ingenue: Make it Zinda. Both prophet and all-consuming destroyer. Then you can double-bill her on your licensing fees.
[OOC] WC GM: Nah. This is WC trying to get you to speak to them using one of the multiple-if-not-direct channels available. Notably, channels that involve another PC.
Abraham: "Probably Spyboy, since he is under my command, so it's less of a lie than speaking through Zinda would be."
[OOC] WC GM: Also requiring more than "just" talking. There's another piece that Abraham can do.
Abraham: "Spyboy, kindly tell the Nephilim that I am speaking to them through you and ask them about this 'sin'."
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Or just have Neu rebroadcast your voice to them?
[OOC] Ingenue: Nue's going to do that anyways. Simulcast!
Spyboy Pearson broadcasts Abraham's voice into NephNet.
No response comes to the rebroadcast, just like previous attempts at Terran-over-radiotelepathy.
Spyboy Pearson tries Terran-over-radio, too.
The same.
[OOC] Ingenue: We could try binary, but without a translation convention its pretty useless.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: …Give isabel a speech.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: She'll then provide it to Neu who rebroadcasts.
Spyboy Pearson: "I got nothing, Admiral. They're not responding. But they don't speak Terran, either."
[OOC] Ingenue: Isa can decode Neph. Can she encode?
Abraham: "Hm… all right. I'm going to have Isabel try to translate that question into Neph-speak and have Metis broadcast it, and see what happens. Isabel, please translate as well as you can, 'This is Abraham. What is the nature of your sin?'."
[OOC] Abraham: "Please state the nature of your spiritual emergency."
Isabel shakes her head. "No can do. Not with just these samples."
[OOC] WC GM: Abraham: Culture/Tech check?
Abraham rolled up 4dF: 0 + - 0 (Base: 2 Total: 2) (Because WC conned me into it.)
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: …Say it in hebrew?
Abraham sighs and thinks for a moment. "Okay, please translate this phonetically." He then repeats himself, but this time in Kilrathi.
Abraham: "If that doesn't work, Nu, please broadcast the sounds I just made."
[OOC] Ingenue: Hebrew is tricky.
Ingenue does both.
[OOC] Abraham: Hebrew is a goddamn pain in the ass.
THAT gets their attention, as the Nephilim fighters veer as one to point straight at Ingenue. "[#Abrahim? Kilrathi Abrahim?#]"
Ingenue: "Admiral, there was a reaction."
[OOC] Abraham: Okay, I'm gonna need some funkified badass symbols for the Kilrathiness of my speech.
Abraham: "Oh good. I was beginning to wonder if they'd turned off their radios."
[OOC] WC GM: # is Kilrathi. [# is Kilrathi-over-radiotelepathy.
Abraham: "#Yes. Again, what is the nature of your sin. What do you require of me?#"
Ingenue continues to be one who is like the Metatron.
Nephilim: "[#We desire salvation. Enlightenment. Progress.#]"
[OOC] Abraham: And this is why android are no longer allowed to imbibe alcohol.
Abraham: "#Elaborate. By what means am I expected to provide these to you?#"
Ingenue: "Their 'sin' may be a form of stagnation. Or they are not being precise."
Nephilim: "[#Hope. Prosperity. An end to suffering.#]"
Nephilim: "[#Innovation. Understanding. Artificial intelligence, that we may become. Food to feed more, or freedom from food. Termination of all plagues.#]"
Abraham provides translations for the nephs replies and his questions to Metis.
Abraham: "Apparently they take their messiahs seriously."
Abraham: "Thoughts on that 'Artificial Intelligence' bit?"
Nephilim: "[#Release, for all our people.#]"
Abraham: "#Are your people confined?#"
Nephilim: "[#By our own ignorance.#]"
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Join the club
Nephilim: "[#Abrahim. Kilrathi Abrahim. We scan what you have done to the inner planet. You may be our savior.#]"
[OOC] Abraham: Oh crap. Which planet was the inner planet?
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Elles
[OOC] WC GM: Prime.
Nephilim: "[#Our brethren report your actions with the self-moving planet.#]"
[OOC] Abraham: Congratulations WC. The Nephlim are officially worse than the NSA.
Nephilim: "[#And yea, verily you place most of another planet's populace under cloak.#]"
[OOC] WC GM: They're more dedicated.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Man Zinda would have some stuff to say. xD
Ingenue: "Would it be improper to explain to the Nephilim that these are not miracles?"
Nephilim: "[#You. YOU. Have ascended to control of these 'Terrans', if we understand correctly the actions from the star the moving planet later invaded.#]"
[OOC] Ingenue: Kay, now we gotta murder Ol Abe on live TV, so he can rise again in three days.
Nephilim: "[#You are truly Abrahim. We beg of you.#]"
Abraham: "Metis, you can try I suppose, but if they're anything even /remotely/ like Terrans, they'll ignore you."
Abraham: "And my momma always told me not to start a cult."
Nephilim: "[#You have even dealt with the Wenser, yet you live.#]"
[OOC] Abraham: Well yeah, but as long as you don't cheat Texas Hold 'em is rarely lethal.
[OOC] Abraham: Be back to save the neph in a moment.
[OOC] WC GM: Is Ingenue going to try to explain?
[OOC] Ingenue: No; technically Abe didn't answer Nue's question (whether or not it is /proper/ to intellectually assault religious beliefs), so it gets filed under 'weird things organics do' until there's more time for reflection. Cause Zinda said Nue has to be nice.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Nue could bring it up with Zinda.
[OOC] Ingenue: Zinda gets all of Nue's broadcasts. You do not keep secrets from mother. Unless Michael or Abe makes them confidential. Then Nue is very sad.
[OOC] Abraham: And I'm back.
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Does Nue speak Kilrathi, or is she just rebroadcasting sounds?
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Aww.
Zinda Tegram blinks at the rebroadcasts she gets from Nue.
[OOC] Ingenue: Nue speaks Terran ConFed, Oldziey, Kilrathi, and Lagos.
[OOC] Abraham: I'm sorry my being back distresses you Zinda.
Zinda Tegram: "[Ugh, Kilrathi…]"
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Huh. Would that give Michael a running translation off of Nue's own?
[OOC] Ingenue: Probably, yeah. Though maybe with a Lagos accent. However that would sound…
[OOC] Abraham: Actually, I'm starting to feel ungood. Can I get an early log end while I mull my new divine responsibilities? And to think I returned The Guided Fate Paradox just a couple of days ago.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Can always pawn it off on Zinda.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: She makes a pretty good war god I hear.
[OOC] Abraham: I might.
[OOC] WC GM: Sure, we can logend if everyone wants?
[OOC] Spyboy Pearson: Fine by me.
[OOC] Ingenue: Abstain.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Abstain.
Nephilim: "[#The Wenser have prevented much interaction. Few facts slipped through. But one was the invented word, new to the Kilrathi, for our salvation.#]"
[OOC] Abraham: I think that's everyone's vote in. Except Heggy's.
Nephilim: "[#We rarely speak it - it is forbidden hope, impossible dreams. Yet the Kilrathi, and the Terrans, mastered it.#]"
Nephilim: "[#Abrahim. Kilrathi Abrahim. Please grant us this gift.#]"
Nephilim: "[#The gift of SCIENCE!#]"
