Session 3 4

The tech continues to supervise the installation of the cloakbusters, not caring to explain her comment.
Time passes along, and soon it is night, then day…
[OOC] WC GM: Anyone doing anything before the lunch and screening?
[OOC] Spyboy: Can't think of anything.
[OOC] Abraham: No. Other than standard administrative admirally stuff.
[OOC] Alexander: Not really.
The sky is a perfect clear blue as the party approaches City Hall. The paparazzi seem to be less in evidence - are the people getting used to the party's presence already?
Zinda Tegram: "Something's off."
Alexander: "Hm?"
Zinda Tegram: "I'unno. Just a feeling."
Zinda Tegram seems distracted.
Mayor Thanes is waiting at the door, his outfit even more ostentatious than yesterday. All frills and lace and slightly poofy hair and every bit the image of a dashing gentleman from about 5 centuries ago - though, mercifully, only the good parts.
Thanes: "Greetings! And these would be your comrades?"
He scans the group, his eyes settling on Zinda. "Ahh, Miss Knight, I have heard much about your exploits." He extends a hand.
Zinda Tegram accepts the hand gives a firm, but brief shake.
Zinda Tegram: "Mayor."
He kisses the back of her hand.
[OOC] WC GM: Resolve check
[OOC] WC GM: Or Stamina - actually, Stamina has an easier target
Abraham looks on with thinly veiled amusement.
Zinda Tegram rolled up 4dF: + + 0 0 (Base: 3 Total: 5) (Resolve. He kissed my hand? Well.)
[OOC] Abraham: Nope. Sorry Zinda, you needed a 10 to avoid Mayor cooties.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: D :
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Nooooo boys are grosssss~
[OOC] WC GM: Awareness or Science from Alexander, Ingenue, and Spyboy. Not Abraham since he doesn't have a way to notice this.
Zinda Tegram smiles slightly, and nods in acknowledgement.
Alexander rolled up 4dF: + - + 0 (Base: 4 Total: 5) (Science)
Spyboy rolled up 4dF: - 0 + + (Base: 3 Total: 4) (Science)
Zinda feels a blush creep on to her features - from outside her mind - but manages to fight it down.
[OOC] Spyboy: Gotta be some form of pheromones….
Zinda Tegram narrows her eyes. Well.
[OOC] Abraham: Or telepathy.
Ingenue rolled up 4dF: 0 - 0 + (Base: 4 Total: 4) (Alertness)
[OOC] Alexander: last Mayor was an agent, I wonder what this one will be…
[OOC] Abraham: You said the mayor's name was Bester? Al Bester?
Zinda Tegram: "I appreciate the gesture, mayor, but I'd remind you that chivalry is my job, not yours."
Spyboy frowns.
Zinda Tegram retracts her hand.
The Mayor chuckles. "Ah, can a man not be chivalrous?" He stands aside. "Come in, come in."
Ingenue: "[Query: What substance is this person injecting into Zinda?]"
Spyboy: "[I don't know. I really hope it was relatively benign.]"
Alexander elbows Abraham on his way in.
Spyboy: "[Can either of you see any form of injector?]"
[OOC] Spyboy: Alertness roll for Heggy, checking the mayor's lips for any kind of injector or maybe a sheen of contact -poison- drug?
Abraham leans into Spyboy and whispers. "That hurt, just so you know. What?"
Spyboy whispers back "Wasn't me but if it was I'd tell you that Zinda just got dosed with something by our host."
[OOC] WC GM: No roll: there's no visible sign of an injector, and the only sheen is lipstick.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Probably a contact aphrodisiac.
Abraham still whispering "Dosed? Who slipped Zinda a roofie?"
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Might be trying to butter me up, or get me to cause a bigger gaffe than usual.
Ingenue: "[Injector is concealed within mouth or tongue. Should mouth and/or tongue be exposed for further examination?]"
Spyboy: "[Only subtly.]"
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Metis wooow <3
[OOC] WC GM: Hey, she's concerned about Zinda.
Ingenue: "[Shame… initiating active scan. Please move behind the unit; exposure to excessive scanning may cause cancer.]"
[OOC] Ingenue: First a maneuver on self, placing the aspect Full Processing Power on Nue cause this guy is messing with Nue's Zinda! Then a scan, tagging maneuver as needed. Roll them?
[OOC] Spyboy: Got it half right that time, Ingenue =p
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Quotes on the outside Shad. : P
[OOC] Ingenue: Brain will wake up in a moment. Maybe. Probably?
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: "That's Nue's Zinda!" would be a fun aspect actually. : D
[OOC] Spyboy: …Whoa. They loaded Geoffrey into Metis, didn't they.
[OOC] WC GM: Sure. Science, since this isn't just passive scanning.
[OOC] Alexander: That was one of my working theories…
[OOC] Ingenue: Science in for maneuver, or the roll, or both?
[OOC] WC GM: The roll. For the maneuver, if you want to roll it, Resolve.
Ingenue rolled up 4dF: 0 0 0 - (Base: 4 Total: 3) (((Resolve maneuver placing 'Full Processing Power' on self)))
[OOC] WC GM: Presumably the results of this scan get shared with Spyboy and B4 as it happens?
[OOC] Ingenue: A'course. One day Nue will learn to shut its brain up, but not today!
Ingenue rolled up 4dF: - - - - (Base: 2 Total: -2) (((Science roll, active scan)))
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: tag to re-roll?
[OOC] Ingenue: Oh Chessa. Tag maneuver for reroll.
Ingenue rolled up 4dF: - 0 - 0 (Base: 2 Total: 0) (((Science roll, active scan, reroll)))
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: T.T
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Use some FP?
[OOC] Ingenue: Fate Point through Loyal To a Fault; That's Nue's Zinda!
[OOC] Ingenue: For +2.
[OOC] WC GM: Spyboy can roll as well.
Spyboy has access to the feed and can do his own monitoring….
Spyboy rolled up 4dF: + - - - (Base: 3 Total: 1) (Science!)
[OOC] Spyboy: Though not much better. Man, the mayor has a good suppressor up.
[OOC] Spyboy: Spending a FP to tag Already Sized Up The Tactical Situation for a reroll.
[OOC] Abraham: I assume this entire exchange is taking place in about two seconds. No one's answered Abrham's question yet.
Spyboy rolled up 4dF: + 0 + 0 (Base: 3 Total: 5) (Science!)
[OOC] Spyboy: MUCH better.
[OOC] WC GM: Abraham: correct.
[OOC] Spyboy: Spyboy hasn't answered the question cuz he thought he already did.
[OOC] Abraham: Your right. Misread SB's bost. - my last comment
That. That is a cyborg. Almost more machine than man. Not even remotely close to what you've seen from Nephilim works, fortunately - but from the extensive headware…oh. Right. Mayor. Cybernetic optimizations around things that might help in a political context. Such as retractable microscopic pheromone injectors in his lips when he wishes to flirt.
Abraham still whispering. "The mayor gave Zinda a roofie? Do you have any evidence? I didn't see anything and I was watching."
Major potential for scandal if this gets out - you think. Unless this sort of thing is common around here.
[OOC] Ingenue: Is Nue picking up what Spyboy is seeing?
[OOC] WC GM: The opposite, but Nue is presumably picking up Spyboy's analysis of what Nue is seeing?
Spyboy whispers back "I just bet you have enhanced hearing, too."
[OOC] Spyboy: Charm to detect any response to that comment from the Mayor.
[OOC] WC GM: No need.
[OOC] Spyboy: Copy that!
The Mayor's eyebrow raises a bit, then he smiles more. "Ah. Shall we discuss in private before the screening?" His path shifts just so, and soon he and the party are alone in an office.
Spyboy: "You have some truly excellent gear, Your Honor. It didn't even look like you broke skin."
Once in private, Zinda shakes her hand a bit and gives the Mayor a Deathglare. She may not know exactly what happened, but she knows He Had Something to Do With It.
Alexander examines the residue left on Zinda's hand.
Alexander rolled up 4dF: - - + - (Base: 4 Total: 2) (Science)
He bows slightly, then looks to Zinda. "My honest apologies. I meant nothing but harmless fun."
Not a trace.
[OOC] Spyboy: Huh. Would Heggy have seen the blush? One of her Aspects is "Touch of heat vision….."
Thanes: "Honest, it is already flushed from your system."
Ingenue: "Clarify: Harmless fun?"
[OOC] WC GM: The whole party saw it, if they were looking.
[OOC] Spyboy: Ah, thought she fought it down faster.
Thanes: "Fun that causes no injury, and no lasting consequence for ill."
[OOC] WC GM: She fought it down quickly, but not that quick.
Alexander: "Yes, what exactly was in that injection?"
Ingenue: "This 'fun' requires surreptitious injection of chemicals?"
Zinda Tegram: "He was probably trying to seduce me, Metis."
Spyboy: "I doubt it. I respect your willpower, but it didn't look that strong."
Zinda Tegram: "An aphrodisiac, was my impression."
Spyboy: "Let me guess. If it had worked perfectly, she'd have blushed a bit, perhaps giggled? Enough that she'd look like a woman flirting in a movie."
Thanes: "That would have been a feather in my cap. But no, I merely wished to make sure your legendary aggressiveness did not cause a problem. Some of the renderings are…less than friendly to Oldziey."
Zinda Tegram: "I see. Well, thank you for the warning."
Zinda Tegram relaxes very slightly.
Zinda Tegram: "Well. Have you anything else to warn us of?"
Thanes starts to frown - Ingenue can see automatic systems catch the frown, neutering it before his face can darken noticeably.
Thanes: "I'm sure you've met your, ah, 'fans' by now. Don't worry, everyone new is a fad for a time, you in particular."
Spyboy: "The more he warns us of, the less natural we'll act in front of the cameras. Isn't that right?"
Thanes: "That's one way of putting it."
Thanes: "But then, acting natural isn't always all it's cracked up to be."
Zinda Tegram: "The fans I pulled that stunt to ditch you mean?"
Thanes: "The same."
Ingenue eyes narrow. "[…may this unit perform data extraction on him?]"
Thanes: "I hope you do not mind that I, ah, 'intervened' when you proved to be quite uncomfortable with the attention."
Spyboy: "[Just what exactly do you mean by that, Metis?]"
Ingenue looks at Michael. Blinks once.
Zinda Tegram: "I have my suspicions it was you, understand."
Spyboy: "[I only ask because Zinda would be attempting data extraction with a plasma torch and I cannot recommend that under the current circumstances.]"
Thanes spreads his arms. "And here I am confessing that, yes, it was I who asked that the mob surrounding you thin out."
Zinda Tegram: "Or do you mean their odd absence on the way here?"
Thanes: "For that I can take less credit. You're a day old here now. Less novel."
Thanes: "Though I did try to make sure your path would be clear." He tilts his head. "Perhaps I overdid it?"
Thanes: "Hmm."
[OOC] WC GM: Charm or Alertness from everyone. Zinda has a lower target.
Spyboy rolled up 4dF: - 0 0 + (Base: 4 Total: 4) (Charm)
Zinda Tegram rolled up 4dF: - - 0 + (Base: 4 Total: 3) (Alertness. Fucker's lying.)
Ingenue rolled up 4dF: + + 0 0 (Base: 4 Total: 6) ((Alertness))
Abraham rolled up 4dF: + + 0 + (Base: 3 Total: 6) (Alertness)
Spyboy rolled up 4dF: - - - 0 (Base: 3 Total: 0) (Alertness from Heggy)
[OOC] Spyboy: Yeah, she's not paying any attention.
Alexander rolled up 4dF: - - 0 - (Base: 3 Total: 0) (Alertness)
[OOC] Abraham: Someone waved carrots at her.
…that look on his face just now. It's like whenever Ingenue is puzzling some new facet out. JUST like.
Spyboy looks over Metis' scanner results. There IS a human brain in there, right?
Zinda Tegram: "Regardless, let's focus on today's agenda, mayor."
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: And stop dropping hints that I have my own assets.
Abraham takes note of that expression, but does not comment.
There is. Though there is also a decidedly silicon-and-metal coprocessor. It's not the same layout as Ingenue's, though it is similar to the neutrino communicator's circuitry…but without any neu-comm capability.
[OOC] Abraham: Yay for that at least.
Then again, it also bears some similarity to the scan analysis hardware in Spyboy's own fighter.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Brb bathroom.
Thanes: "Indeed, if you have no more questions. Though I do wonder, what gave me away?"
Ingenue flags data for further processing. "[Similar layout to neu-comm without LaGOS-type architecture could imply Nephilim technology. Further… 'hands on' analysis required.]"
Spyboy: "Please. A place like this? What kind of politician wouldn't have CASIE implants?"
Alexander: "We have… some experience in the matter."
Abraham: "And very good eyes."
Alexander clenches his fist.
Spyboy: "Besides, Zinda doesn't blush. Not without chemical interference."
Thanes BLINKS. "Ehh?"
Abraham: "It's true. She doesn't."
Thanes: "…how sad. But that's not what surprised me. Err…as far as I am aware, I am the only politician with implants. I had been planning to broach the topic at the next governors' meeting."
Thanes: "Well. The only politician in high office in this cluster. Unless you count Kali."
Spyboy: "Really? An edge like that?"
Spyboy: "Well, yeah, Admiral Kali."
Abraham: "Is there some legal reason for that?"
Spyboy blinks
Spyboy: "[We gotta get you in a room with Admiral Kali some time for some deep scans, Metis.]"
Spyboy: "[…..except she'd probably scan back and we don't want that.]"
Thanes shrugs, then looks at Alexander. "You know the…stigma that's been attached to them. It is especially an issue in politics. But without you-know-who from Earth reinforcing it, I figured I'd take a chance."
Spyboy: "[Actually, she probably can jam your scans. So. Whatever.]"
Alexander Sighs…
Alexander: "Yeah…"
Thanes nods. "Could you explain to our Admiral, please?"
He gestures to Abraham.
Abraham turns to Alexander, an inquisitive look on his face.
Ingenue: "[With enough advance notice to reconfigure existing architecture, this unit can alter its skin-sheath to resist passive and active scans.]"
Alexander removes the glove from his right hand, revealing the mechanical arm beneath it.
[OOC] Spyboy: So…a chapter ahead to pick up the stunt? =p
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Back.
Abraham nods. "It's in your file," he points out.
[OOC] Ingenue: Actually, I've got a stunt free, but you can only stunt swap at the end of a session.
Alexander: "Well, in most parts of the Confederation… people with cybernetic components are looked down upon."
Abraham: "That's going to require clarification. 'Looked down upon' how?"
Alexander: "Most people are really uncomfortable with the idea of switching out limbs for mechanical components… even if they don't have a choice in the matter."
Abraham: "Okay, I can see that…"
Ingenue: "Do not mechanical limbs offer significant structural advantages over standard humanoid limbs?"
Alexander: "They do, but people sometimes see it as an unfair advantage."
Zinda Tegram: "There's class and access concerns as well."
Thanes: "Not to mention religious, in some places."
Ingenue: "Advantages can be unfair?"
Alexander: "Imagine if cybernetic enhancements were more common. If an ordinary human was competing with an enhanced workforce, well… how would you even compete?"
Abraham: "Part of the definition of 'Advantage' is it creates an inequity, Metis."
Alexander: "Not to mention being seen as inhuman…"
Alexander puts his glove back on.
Thanes: "I dare say, I have no fear for my reelection at this time unless my, ah, 'condition' becomes public." He frowns. "…although perhaps not even then, if…"
Alexander: "But Mr. Mayor, you have some enhancements beyond… well, more in depth than anything we had been working on."
Thanes: "I've been working on them for a number of years. My colleagues and I, that is."
Abraham: "He does?"
Alexander: "Colleagues?"
Thanes: "No one gets to be in my position without backers."
Zinda Tegram: "Would Crest number among them?"
Thanes: "Prominently."
Zinda Tegram: "I see."
Thanes: "I am what you might consider their showroom model."
Zinda Tegram closes her eyes in thought.
Thanes: "Though they've been reluctant to show."
Zinda Tegram: "You are aware of the recent incident in Mu Cephei?"
Thanes: "For which I am grateful. But, sooner or later this cat is coming out of the bag. I choose to release it before it claws its way out."
The Mayor raises one eyebrow. "The dogfight we shall soon be seeing movies of? Or was there another recent incident?"
Abraham: "You said you were a 'showroom model'? Not a 'test model'?"
Alexander: "Honestly, if anyone embodies the unfair advantages of cybernetics, it's you, Mr. Mayor…"
Zinda Tegram: "Crest had major assets in system, Mayor. A space station, heavily armed."
Thanes: "Showroom, test…a little of both, really."
Thanes: "Ah. Hotel Cannon. Yes, they'd mentioned it. I did not wish to involve myself in that sort of thing."
Alexander: "Do you have any idea how you make people like me… people who didn't really have much of a choice about becoming a cyborg, look?"
Thanes winces.
Thanes: "Trust me, people like you are a LARGE part of why I wish to let this cat out of the bag in a controlled way. Make the message spin positive."
Alexander: "Except you had a choice. You chose to get these enhancements so that you could be a 'better' politician, to manipulate people."
Thanes: "I may have become like this, but I still cling to my ideals. I got into public service for the good of the people, and I WILL continue serving the public good!"
Zinda Tegram leans against the wall. Not her fight.
Alexander: "But is that how it looks? You dosed Zinda, and who knows how many other people, just to look better for the cameras!"
[OOC] Ingenue: Okay now, everyone smile and applaud, cause he apparently thinks this is a political rally…
Thanes: "And if that means making the world better for people like you, so you don't have to hide your arm, then that is a task I shall take on."
[OOC] Spyboy: You kidding, Ingenue? He's turning to the side, fist clenched in front of his heart, eyes to the heavens as he makes a sacred vow. He's not a politician. He's an actor who thinks he's in a movie.
[OOC] WC GM: Consider how this world is.
Alexander: "Sir, I'm sorry. I know your intentions are good… but I don't think that's how people will see it. They'll see a backwater politician who upgraded himself to get an edge over his competitors."
[OOC] WC GM: "Both" would be a fair assessment. :P
Thanes: "If it comes out bluntly, with no spin, you are correct."
Alexander: "And what happens when we regain contact with the rest of the Confederation?"
Thanes: "That is an end I wish to avert. So I am being VERY careful with how this comes out."
Thanes winces.
Thanes: "That…is my time limit. That is why this must come out soon."
Thanes: "Perhaps you might help me."
Abraham: "I question that. You dosed Zinda with blush-juice in public and were caught. It's only a matter of time before that happens again."
Thanes: "Tell me…this 'In Crowd'." He looks at Spyboy. "You seem to have some connection with them? I gather they are not unlike me."
[OOC] Alexander: We just love to antagonize mayors, don't we?
[OOC] Abraham: Hey, when life hands you mayors…
Ingenue: "Spin. In context, to change, bias or slant so as to alter and give a advantageous appearance. To… deliver false data." Blink. Blinkblinkblink. "….I don't like you."
[OOC] Ingenue: ….now, say it IC….
Thanes: "It is not always false. Sometimes, it is about giving more truth than would otherwise be given."
[OOC] Alexander: I don't think mayors are nearly inflammatory enough to burn a house down… maybe senators, but not mayors
[OOC] Abraham: Well, you need someone at the federal level at least.
Spyboy: "I know a few of them, but they're pretty secretive. I don't know if I'd be able to arrange a meeting."
Thanes: "I mean, you…" He looks at Ingenue.
Thanes freezes. Ingenue detects active scans.
Thanes: "…what…"
Zinda Tegram puts a hand on Metis' shoulder.
Zinda Tegram: "What about my Daughter."
[OOC] Ingenue: Can I kill him no… awww. Guess not.
[OOC] Abraham: um… warning to reconfigure your exoskin and stuff…
Thanes looks at Zinda. "…and you have a problem with ME?"
Spyboy: "You misunderstand, Your Honor."
Spyboy: "She doesn't have a problem with you because you're….augmented."
Abraham: "I can count the number of times Metis has used blush-juice on Zinda with no hands."
Zinda Tegram: "I'm not the one making that argument. Frankly, I saw a lot of cybernetic surgery in my time in Oldziey, I understand the necessity."
Zinda Tegram: "But don't you dare insinuate my daughter's like you. She had even less choice than Alex."
Zinda Tegram grins slightly.
Thanes: "…"
Spyboy: "You know what'd really be funny? If he tried to use anything he learned from that active scan as leverage."
Zinda Tegram: "I'm sure your time in politics has taught you, at the very least, that things aren't always as they seem."
[OOC] WC GM: Alertness check from Zinda.
Zinda Tegram rolled up 4dF: - 0 + - (Base: 4 Total: 3) (Alertness)
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Tagging…lemme think.
WC GM rolled up 4dF: 0 - 0 - (Base: 4 Total: 2) (Agility)
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Ah, of course.
[OOC] WC GM: No need.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: "Don't you dare lay a finger on my daughter!"
[OOC] WC GM: Irrelevant tag there.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Shame.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Well, I beat him anyways.
[OOC] Abraham: Abraham balances a finger sandwich on Metis's head.
Zinda barely sees the Mayor's advance in time to block his grapple…wait…he's trying to hug her, bury his head in her shoulder.
[OOC] Ingenue: Nue: "…there is a sandwich on my head."
[OOC] WC GM: *sings that to the tune of Plants vs Zombies*
[OOC] Abraham: Don't you mean "Observation: There is a sandwich on my head."
Zinda Tegram is incredibly tense but has ascertained probably not to respond with violence. She takes the hug woodenly.
Ingenue narrows eyes.
Zinda Tegram: "What are you doing…"
The hug is given warmly. Ingenue detects no activity from any of his implants that Ingenue can observe.
Thanes: "You know! You know and yet you…thank you thank you thank you!"
[OOC] Ingenue: Clearly a trick! ….probably.
Thanes looks up, his teary eyes meeting hers. "I was afraid it'd take years for a heart like yours to form. To be around, in public."
[OOC] Abraham: Get an ax.
[OOC] Abraham: And… BRB again.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: I'unno what he thinks, but OK. XD
Ingenue: "[…]"
[OOC] WC GM: Ask him, if you want.
[OOC] Ingenue: Oh, its the whole 'wait, you're calling it your daughter but its a robot thing which means you can't have all that much problem with non-people cause they're not non-people if they think and act like people [insert tachikoma philosophy here]
[OOC] WC GM: Not quite, but close.
Zinda Tegram: "W-what are you talking about?"
[OOC] Spyboy: He probably assumes Ingenue's a full-body cyborg.
Zinda Tegram gives an awkward side-hug back, not wanting to be a bad person.
Thanes lets go and kneels. "Lady Knight. I swear on my honor that I shall not reveal your daughter's condition until said information becomes public knowledge."
[OOC] Ingenue: I'd hope that an active scan would reveal that there's no organic parts there, even in the skin-sheath, that's just a thing to make it look human and also keep the dust off. Cause, you know. Dust. Its hard on electronics.
Zinda Tegram nods. "As it were, Mayor."
[OOC] Spyboy: ….confirmed.
[OOC] Spyboy: Also confirmed on the dust. We blew up a $6000 standard cuz of dust.
[OOC] WC GM: A full active scan would. If he bothered to scan completely and had any concept that Ingenue might be non-human.
Zinda Tegram: "Metis doesn't have a condition, Mayor. That's who she is."
[OOC] Spyboy: Haha, correction. $26000.
Thanes: "I…w-well…" He looks to the side.
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: There. Now I can claim we told him if he's like "I NEVER KNEW"
Ingenue: "Metis is Metis."
Zinda Tegram: "Exactly."
Zinda Tegram smiles at Metis.
Thanes stands up. "I suspected there were others like me. I did not expect one to just walk up to me like that." He pats Ingenue on the head.
Thanes: "Crest doesn't know about her, does it?"
Zinda Tegram: "They don't. Also, ah, you're misunderstanding."
Zinda Tegram: "They're not like you."
Thanes: "Eh?"
Zinda Tegram: "They never had any organic components in the first place."
Zinda Tegram: "Metis is an android."
Thanes: "…"
Zinda Tegram: "Though, frankly, if they were my biological daughter I'd treat them the same as I treat Metis."
Zinda Tegram: "Regardless of any augmentation."
Ingenue: "…such data is no longer confidential?"
Thanes nods after a moment. "Coping. Sure, alright, I can go along with that."
Zinda Tegram shakes her head. "I'm sure you've gone over our files, Mayor."
Zinda Tegram: "Don't you think their recent adoption is odd?"
Zinda Tegram: "Metis isn't even a year old yet."
Spyboy: "Metis. You know how Zinda is with confidential."
Zinda Tegram: "Dammit Spyboy! Keeping them a secret won't help them get socialized and learn what life is about!"
Thanes: "I'll admit, I hadn't read in detail. I was more focused on the Admiral."
Zinda Tegram looks at Metis meaningfully.
Thanes: "Speaking of - Admiral Bounty, you are on your tour of the systems, yes?" He side-nods to Ingenue. "I hear Mahavier is lovely this time of year. You may want to consider going there within the next, ah…7 days? No, no, 6. Definitely 6."
Thanes: "Assuming certain things do not go ahead of schedule."
[OOC] Abraham: Back, and I can not in good conscious ever vote for this dude. We've seen him run a half-assed scan and he admit he didn't read documents thoroughly.
Ingenue: "…? Analysis of Zinda's facial structure implies that this unit should be understanding something that this unit isn't…"
Zinda Tegram hugs Metis. "You'll figure it out. You always do."
[OOC] Spyboy: Abe: well, duh, politician. He doesn't have time to read thoroughly. He has votes to win.
[OOC] WC GM: That, pretty much.
[OOC] Ingenue: That's what a staff of untold power is for.
Abraham: "Understood. Is there any reason that shouldn't be my next stop, or should I aim for day 6 precisely?"
Spyboy: "Let me guess. Something from the people who provided you with your CASIE augs?"
Ingenue hugs Zinda. "[This has been a very confusing day.]"
Thanes: "Ah, it would be nice if you could see to Salaam first. Day 4 to 6 should be good enough. Should be."
[OOC] Abraham: I have decided to rename the Neutrino coms to the Twitter coms.
Abraham: "I see."
[OOC] Abraham: It's clearly a trap. Get a Torchy.
[OOC] Ingenue: It kinda is, except Nue isn't limited to 150 characters or whatsit.
[OOC] WC GM: The whole cluster's a trap. Question is, for who?
Zinda Tegram: "Mayor, may I presume your promise not to speak on the nature of my Daughter holds?"
Thanes: "But of course."
[OOC] Ingenue: Us. All traps are for us. And if they aren't… we spring'em anyway! We're PCs. Cept Nue, who is in fact an android.
Alexander: "And we'll provide you the same assurances."
[OOC] Abraham: 'The whole cluster's a trap.' So what, it's really a nebula?
Thanes nods. "Thanks. Though as I said, I intend to manage the revelation, one step at a time. My next major step will be the governors' meeting."
Alexander: "Be careful, sir."
Thanes: "To build a better future for people like your daughter."
Zinda Tegram: "Thank you."
Thanes: "I will."
Zinda Tegram: "Oh, and ah, Mayor?"
[OOC] Spyboy: Okay, that line was totally a politician.
Thanes: "Yes?"
Zinda Tegram: "I think that, in time, you will have Oldziey's full cooperation, at least so long as Kali doesn't get in my way."
Zinda Tegram: "I understand your hands are likely tied here, but please try to put in a good word."
Thanes: "Oh, really?" He raises an eyebrow again. "Hmm…yes, it'd make sense…"
Thanes: "With Kali?"
Zinda Tegram: "Yes."
Zinda Tegram: "On a related note, I have reason to believe Crest has been employing Oldziey mercenary groups."
Thanes: "…tell her about your daughter and you might have her cooperation. Though personally, I think Oldziey is a distraction."
Abraham: "From what?"
Thanes: "From her base."
Zinda Tegram: "Heh, well, I have my own goals back home."
Thanes: "And yes, they have. Their credits spend as well as anyone's."
Zinda Tegram: "Do you know which ones, exactly?"
Zinda Tegram: "And how they made contact?"
Thanes: "I have not witnessed it personally, but I have conversed with some of their recruiters. So far as I know, they just went there and put out bids."
Thanes: "Mercenaries are mercenaries. You should understand them better than I."
Thanes: "Before we go on…Spyboy. Or is it Michael? If I could ask a favor of you?"
Thanes: "What is your connection to the 'In Crowd'?"
Spyboy grins at the mayor.
Spyboy: "That's classified."
Spyboy: "But like I said, I can arrange a meeting."
Thanes: "…actual honest military Classified?"
Thanes: "What sort of meeting?"
[OOC] Abraham: Spyboy: "I represent the blogosphere…"
Spyboy: "Yes.*"
Abraham: "Yes, an honest military Classified. I classified it myself."
[OOC] WC GM: …careful. You know what kind of power such media interests represent to politicians?
[OOC] Spyboy: Note to self. Next time we have a moment, talk to the Admiral. As an Admiral he has the right to make things classified.
[OOC] Spyboy: Ah, he got it.
[OOC] Abraham: I wasn't sure, but if I didn't legally have it, I'm sure I could grab it since we are in a stare of war.
[OOC] WC GM: You do have that right. War or not, you're the highest military authority.
[OOC] Ingenue: Until Zinda annexes the Roland.
[OOC] Abraham: Won't happen. I have the keys.
[OOC] Spyboy: Modern military you'd be too low ranking to do it if the Cluster was still connected to the Confederation. But Kali or Dakka, whichever is senior, probably high enough.
[OOC] WC GM: Abraham is now equal rank to Kali, Dakka, and Wenser.
Spyboy: "I don't know? I assumed you wanted to talk with them."
[OOC] WC GM: They are equal rank and no one's senior to any of them.
[OOC] Spyboy: That's what time in grade is for, WC. =p
Thanes: "I can talk with them already. Did you mean a special sort?"
[OOC] Zinda Tegram: Zinda won't annex the Roland.
[OOC] Spyboy: That's what Gregory is for.
[OOC] WC GM: That's the thing: with that ceremony, they have explicitly obviated 'time in grade' re: their relative seniority.
Spyboy: "I meant one with a few more cards on the table. But if you already have contact you'd be better at arranging your own goals."
[OOC] WC GM: All four of them are equal, period.
[OOC] Abraham: So we have to figure out who's trying to assassinate the others. It's Naval Clue!
Thanes: "I can identify most of them. They identify themselves, really. I didn't come up with the name 'In Crowd'; they did."
Thanes: "I take it that the name has to do with this Classified info?"
Spyboy: "Well, I can arrange a formal meeting if you so desire, or serve as a liason. But that's it, and I'll be leaving for Salaam soon."
[OOC] Abraham: I always try to classify secret societies that don't try to keep themselves secret. I feel it's the best possible use of my time during a war.
Thanes: "It's just curiosity. They seem to be able to communicate among themselves far better than most groups. Really, some days it's like they're telepathic or something. I have seen them be reclusive about their doctors - I was wondering if perhaps they might be like me?"
Spyboy frowns and visibly thinks about that.
Spyboy: "Huh. It would seem to fit the available data."
Abraham: "I'm sure some of them are. Statistically speaking at least they almost have to be."
Spyboy shrugs
Spyboy: "Well."
Spyboy: "Simple spectrum analysis would confirm or deny that."
Thanes: "…statistically speaking? I was under the impression that cybernetics were very rare."
[OOC] Spyboy: You know. If neutrinos appeared on a spectrum analysis.
[OOC] WC GM: They don't. But that's the point, yes? ;)
[OOC] Spyboy: Exactly.
Thanes: "Not if they communicated chemically."
Spyboy ponders that one.
Abraham: "They are. At least as far as I am aware. But I was referring to how they act. If some or any of them are cyborgs, that would explain it at least in part."
Spyboy: "Honestly doesn't seem too likely. I can see sideband communications chemically, but the process would be too slow for primary communications."
Thanes: "That is what I am asking. Are they cyborgs?"
Abraham: "Too short range most likely as well."
Thanes: "If they are, then I might reveal my, err, 'condition' to them discretely. Gain their sympathy and trust."
Abraham shrugs.
Thanes: "And gain more backers for revealing that cybernetics are not scary."
Spyboy: "Could be worth a shot."
Thanes: "So. Are they?"
[OOC] Spyboy: So, any way of knowing how many of the Integrated are listening in on this conversation?
Spyboy: "I'll ask around."
Thanes: "Thanks."
[OOC] Abraham: check your hash tags.
[OOC] WC GM: Of course they are, unless you're trying to suppress it.
[OOC] Ingenue: Better yet… ping and see who returns.
Spyboy: "[Marco!]"
SeveralThousandIntegrated: "[POLO!]"
Ingenue: "[…Polo?]"
The chorus is almost musical.
[OOC] Abraham: ["Gesunetite."]
Spyboy: "I'll make a note to contact them."
Integrated: "[Ha! Knew it!]" "[Oooh, do we want to link him in? He wants friiiiends~!]" "[C'mon, do you really think he could handle all of us in his mind all the time?]" "[…wouldn't a better question be, wouldn't it be fun to see him try?]"
Zinda Tegram: "Someone saying something interesting, Metis?"
Spyboy reflexively clamps down.
B-4 winces.
Ingenue: "Statistically, someone is always saying something interesting somewhere."
Abraham: "Oh if only that were true."
Integrated: "[So hey robo-child! Come play with us before you go!]" "[Yeah, please! Wait - robo - did ol' Laggy make you?]" "[Eeee~! Present from auntie Laggy!]" "[We've gotta dress you up, get you some fashion sense!]" "[Pipe down, you're scaring the kid.]"
What could generously be called 'data' about certain fashion trends begins to flood the link.
Ingenue: "I suspect the Nephilim communication is especially interesting."
Ingenue: "[If times permits. Yes. Yes. This unit is not programmed for fear or fashion sense.]"
Ingenue: "[…and apparently neither is anyone else.]"
Thanes: "Nephil…err. That, I take it, is very Classified?" He looks worriedly at Abraham.
Spyboy blinks.
Spyboy glances at Abraham, at Abraham's sidearm, back at Abraham, raises an eyebrow questioningly.
Abraham: "Most everything about the Nephilim is classified. In fact, it's so classified we don't know it yet."
Integrated: "[Hey, hey, you've got a human mommy? Think she'd be okay if we took you to a rave?]" "[Oh c'mon, ballroom dance!]" "[Rave!]" "[Dance!]" "[Take it offline, you-]" The linked conversation fades.
[OOC] Abraham: Why won't that work in real life?
Thanes: "And I assure you, I do not WANT to know."
[OOC] WC GM: Lack of radiotelepathy in real life so far?
[OOC] Spyboy: I think Abe was talking about "take it offline" and then they actually, you know, TAKE IT OFFLINE.
[OOC] Abraham: Just so.
Ingenue: "[Yes. Ah… mayb…. insufficient data.]"
Ingenue looks up to Zinda. "Is a ballroom dance or a rave better?"
Abraham: "Ballroom dance. But it's splitting of hair… It is very close."
Zinda Tegram: "Uh…"
[OOC] Abraham: Splitting hairs might be seen as derogatory to Lagos
Zinda Tegram: "Well, they're very different experiences."
[OOC] WC GM: Ah. Longer practice with social norms.
Zinda Tegram: "Knowing you, you'd probably want to see both."
Ingenue: "Yes!"
Zinda Tegram tussles Ingenue's hair.
Zinda Tegram: "Raves are easier to find. You want to go?"
Thanes: "Rave and dance…" He blinks. "Okay, that thing I said about almost telepathic?"
Zinda Tegram: "Hehehe."
Zinda Tegram: "What about it?"
Thanes shakes his head. "If the In Crowd suggested that to you, I know precisely the events they mean! I'll get you all tickets, my treat. I do suggest you all go."
Zinda Tegram: "Well, who are we to say no."
Zinda Tegram: "Abraham, can I tell him where to look for our friends in the 'In Crowd'?
Thanes: "Especially if you are here to show the flag. Those events aren't In Crowd exclusive." He eyes Abraham appraisingly. "Seeing you 'get jiggy with it' would do much to accomplish your mission, in my professional opinion, sir."
Abraham: "Oh dear. That's what I'm afraid of."
Thanes chuckles.
Thanes: "The things we do to create a good public impression, eh?"
[OOC] Ingenue: What skill covers getting jiggy?
[OOC] Spyboy: Charm. Or Agility.
[OOC] Spyboy: ….depending on style of dance, of course. Could always be Intimidation.
[OOC] WC GM: Indeed.
[OOC] Ingenue: Chagility.
[OOC] Abraham: Or possibly Profession: Jiggery
[OOC] WC GM: Close Combat might work too.
[OOC] Spyboy: …….oooooooooooh
[OOC] Spyboy: I have a stunt that lets me sub Tactics for Agility.
[OOC] Ingenue: For the rave, maybe, but not so much the ballroom dance.
[OOC] Spyboy: That would be HILARIOUS to narrate.
[OOC] WC GM: This is one of those things where you justify your skill roll.
[OOC] Ingenue: Re: close combat.
[OOC] WC GM: It *will* be, hopefully. :P
[OOC] Abraham: Avatar Season 3.
[OOC] Ingenue: Traditional dance and/or kata =/= ballroom dance.
[OOC] WC GM: Yet ironically, ballroom dance is traditional.
[OOC] WC GM: Anyway, sounds like the scene's over, and early logend was requested, so…
